'Proportions of Life' is a double sided art work, rendered on two separate boards. In the front view, a male figure with an emotionless, androgynous face and emphasized exact superficial anatomy can be seen. His whole body is divided into segments equal to the length of his head. The figure is set in a five-pointed star, with the Zodiac signs surrounding it, signifying the astronomical movement of the planet Venus through an eight year cycle - a symbol of the Divine Proportions of PHI (1.618). In the background is a star-map of the antipode of Jerusalem at the setting of the sun on 0001-11-03. On both sides of this figure, are two columns of written text. The right-hand side column is a description of the general proportions of this human body. The other column, being in reversed writing, can be read from the back.
The back view shows the posterior anatomy of abovementioned figure, set against a very dark background. The figure has backstabbing knife wounds, carved out of the board. The background shows the actual star-map of Jerusalem just before the rising of the sun on 0001-11-03 approximate to the time of Jesus' birth showing a four planet Venus conjunction. The columns of written text are mirror images of that in the front view. The legible column on the right contains the following text:
"Through the primordial grip of evolution man came to be. Born out of chaos. A product of transformative processes. Shaped through millennia. Influenced by genetics and cultural transmission. Developing into a supposedly superior intelligence. The transitory nature of life causing him to strive for immortality. Extending his life on earth through scientific means or believing in a celestial existence. Creating myths and rituals to cope with existential anxiety. All manifestations of the human psyche. Truant beliefs subduing insecurity. Archaic evidence shunned as heresy. Man's inherent egotism, the driving internal locus of control. Self-preservation overshadowing any drive for beneficence. Wreckage and ruin lie in his wake as he attempts to eschew his imminent demise. Man's duality his principle enemy. Constantly searching for equilibrium between chaos and order, pleasure and pain, good and evil. Endlessly probing for purpose. Forever trying to make life worthwhile."
