The brilliant poet Theodore Roethe once wrote: "In a dark time the eye begins to see". What I initially set out to create was to give expression to the pain and suffering that sometimes exists within the human condition.
It soon metamorphosed into commenting on mankind’s coping mechanisms (for instance religion) with existential angst. It also started to address the origins and development of certain belief systems, the wisdom and knowledge of the ancients of the evolutions of mankind and my never ending love for the sciences.
These pictures may sometimes seem disturbing at first glance, but when the viewer watches closely and attentively for a while, he/she will soon discover the beauty within this darker side of humanity. One might even discover something about oneself by analyzing the emotions that these works provoke.
With that being said a note on the techniques I implemented. These were not copied from photographic references. I use a thorough knowledge of anatomy, close observation and study of underlying structures, mathematical evaluation of perspective and proportion and even sometimes astronomy, sacred geometries, anthropology, and sociology. I illustrate this by sometimes deconstructing the whole by dissecting views of the body to aid in the emotion I want to convey. If it sometimes seems crude, keep in mind that it was created out of nothing with pencil, brushes and paint and without ever having received any formal art training. I only use visualization, the power of the human mind and knowledge ingrained in our ancient roots to say something worthwhile.
